Everyone, please say hi to Chris Osborne. He is a friend of this forum. I would be most grateful if someone here could answer his questions.

Hey Hey Hey.
Goooood-bye!

Thank you Chris for that unusually brilliant revelation. Did you learn that in a physics class? They sure are teaching you powerful and useful stuff at UMD.

No, I have had to research Peak Oil all on my own.
Eugene, have you checked http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/? And if so, what did you think about it? |
Yes. I think it's thrilling and I'm excited about it.

Eugene,
By the way, I graduated with my masters last semester. I work for a corporation that contracts with the Navy now.
Sincerely,
Chris Osborne |

You want to see billions of people die from starvation? |
I want to see the end of the world.

Why is that? Please explain. (BTW: It's only the end of the world if we nuke each other. Not a sure thing.) |
> Why is that? Please explain.
Jesus returns from heaven at the end of the world.
> (BTW: It's only the end of the world if we nuke each other.

It's also possible that a great crisis will hasten the end of the world.

Why is it good that Jesus returns from heaven? How does this outweigh you dying a miserable death? |
> Why is it good that Jesus returns from heaven?
Christ gives immortality to those who love Him at His return and takes them to heaven. That includes the righteous dead.
> How does this outweigh you dying a miserable death?
It's not clear to me that I will be dying a miserable death.

The end of the world would mean every human dies by definition. What are the best possibilities for this happening? Nuclear war? Asteroid/comet hits? Unless you happen to be lucky enough to be killed instantly in a blast, both are going to be miserable deaths. Why do you believe that stuffy about Jesus and immortality? Just because the Bible says so? |
> The end of the world would mean every human dies by definition.
The whole world will be depopulated. Everyone will die, except for those who live by faith in Jesus. The faithful ones receive immortality at Christ's return and are translated to heaven.

The seven last plagues.
> Unless you happen to be lucky enough to be killed instantly in a blast,

The Bible contains proof of its own authenticity. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. If you don't have the Spirit, no proof is possible. For those who have the Spirit, no proof is necessary.

Please explain why God would be so evil as to kill everyone who does not believe in him. Does he really expect someone who has been raised A Bhuddist all his life to suddenly believe in Jesus just because a bunch of people say it is the only way to survive? That's just not realistic given the number of religions that claim condemnation for nonbelievers.
How does one get "the Spirit"? |
Chris,
If your questions aren't important enough to post at http://www.everythingimportant.org/ then they're probably not serious enough for a thoughtful answer.

What the hell? I'm trying to converse with you. Not post stuff to a message board. I'm being completely serious. |
Chris,
I feel that my time and experience is so valuable that I'd have to charge you a premium for personal one to one instruction. However, if others can benefit from my teaching via the bulletin board, then I don't mind giving you a tremendous discount.

Personally, I think you're just ducking the issue when it gets hard to defend your points. But please forward me my last few messages so I can post them to the board. Or, you have my permission to post the discussion yourself. Thanks Eugene. |

Eugene, what do you think of me, personally? |
I have no thoughts about you personally.
| Quote: | Subject: Re: Your Personal Thoughts On Me

That is nonsense. After all of the conversing we have done on the board, you simply must have personal thoughts about me. I'm just asking what they are. |
Chris,
All I know about you is that you have been sold the typical philosophy of physicists. That makes you an arrogant atheist who believes in the superiority of unbelieving rationalists. I'm not aware of anything personal about you to distinguish you from any other arrogant atheist physicist.

What religion do your parents follow Eugene? (or did follow if one or both is not with us anymore) |
Irrelevant. Many people move in and out of religion, or from one religion to another. I have 3 brothers. The 4 of us were raised with a tiny bit of Christian influence. Two became practicing nonbelievers. One dramatically changed his beliefs. The other did not.

I didn't ask because I thought it was relevant, I asked because I was curious. Why did you choose to follow Christianity over some other religion? |
You may be highly educated in physics but you are terribly clueless about world religions to think that all religions are equally reasonable.
| Quote: | Subject: Re: Your Personal Thoughts On Me

If you could, I would appreciate why you chose Christianity as your religion. I never said that all religions are reasonable and it is a distortion for you to claim I think that. |
As a teenager I read the New Testament and concluded that no one is clever enough to fabricate the genius and revelation contained there. So I concluded that it must be true.
As a young man, a coworker told me of her belief in the Hindu gods. She said that millions of these gods line up behind you when you believe in them. I asked her what happens when you turn around suddenly. Do all these gods rotate really fast with you? All of Hinduism is nothing but petty irrelevance.
You mentioned the Buddhist religion. As an adult I read the fundamental claims asserted in Buddhist literature. I was appalled by Buddha's lack of inspiration. The highest goal of Buddhists absolutely terrifies me.
If you watch any world news related to Islam, you should be appalled by the darkness of those who follow Islam.

But Eugene, whoever said that God was not dark? If one is going about this a priori with the only goal being to not be damned to hell at death, shouldn't one consider the possbility that God is evil and dark, according to modern standards of morality? Why should your ingrained ideals of what is "dark" or "terrifying" have anything to do with what the truth actually is?
I don't think this is being picky. We really have no idea what the truth is. Or if there is a God, we really have no idea what he wants. The truth may be obvious in your mind after reading the New Testament, but so it is also obvious to many Muslisms who read the Quran. It was also obvious to Andrea Yates that she should drown her children in order to spare them eternal damnation. We now claim that she was "mentally ill." The mind is a tricky thing Eugene. I've been just as religious as you in the past and found the existence of God to be self-evident. Things can change. |
I suppose you had a need to share that. Perhaps I helped you face your emotional fears. In the future, you will be able to say thank you for the personal consultation by making a donation through pay pal. Shall I put you down as someone who wants to make a financial contribution as soon as that system is operational?
Goodbye.

Eugene, I didn't share anything with you. I have already chosen my strategy as it relates to those questions. Rather, I was posing them as questions for you to answer yourself. I don't know why you think anyone would want to donate money to you. I certainly do not. |
I can't imagine where you get the idea that your questions are original and that I haven't heard them before in a multitude of identical forms. You must believe they are unanswerable.
Also, my statements asserting the value of my time is just that. I say again: Goodbye.

Eugene, I take you at your word that you have heard them many times before. I am not trying to stump you. Rather, I am trying to dig deeper to discover what makes the mind of a fundamentalist tick. I am fully aware you will not be having any revelations as a result of my questions. Again, I would like you to respond to my second to last message and answer the questions that I posed to you. Please do this. Thank you Eugene. |
I'm beginning to think that you're a nuisance. I've answered too many of your questions already. You must enjoy wasting people's time by asking an unending series of questions for which only you can benefit in some sick way. Good day Sir. I'm not a fundamentalist.
Goodbye.

Eugene, if I enjoy wasting your time, then why did I not visit your site (aside from posting one link) or say anything at all to you via e-mail for almost 6 months?
I am at a point where I want to explore some of these issues again. It is for more than just my own benefit of course.
Also, if I recall correctly, you were the one sending me random pictures of elephants and dinosaurs...oh, and I think there was a monkey in there too. :P |

Eugene,
What are you trying to say exactly by sending me that awful picture?
