Christ gives immortality to those who love Him at His return and takes them to heaven. That includes the righteous dead.

The end of the world would mean every human dies by definition. What are the best possibilities for this happening? Nuclear war? Asteroid/comet hits? The whole world will be depopulated. Everyone will die, except for those who live by faith in Jesus. The faithful ones receive immortality at Christ's return and are translated to heaven.

The Bible contains proof of its own authenticity. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. If you don't have the Spirit, no proof is possible. For those who have the Spirit, no proof is necessary.

Please explain why God would be so evil as to kill everyone who does not believe in him. Does he really expect someone who has been raised A Bhuddist all his life to suddenly believe in Jesus just because a bunch of people say it is the only way to survive? That's just not realistic given the number of religions that claim condemnation for nonbelievers.

I feel that my time and experience is so valuable that I'd have to charge you a premium for personal one to one instruction. However, if others can benefit from my teaching via the bulletin board, then I don't mind giving you a tremendous discount.

All I know about you is that you have been sold the typical philosophy of physicists. That makes you an arrogant atheist who believes in the superiority of unbelieving rationalists. I'm not aware of anything personal about you to distinguish you from any other arrogant atheist physicist.

Irrelevant. Many people move in and out of religion, or from one religion to another. I have 3 brothers. The 4 of us were raised with a tiny bit of Christian influence. Two became practicing nonbelievers. One dramatically changed his beliefs. The other did not.

You may be highly educated in physics but you are terribly clueless about world religions to think that all religions are equally reasonable.

As a teenager I read the New Testament and concluded that no one is clever enough to fabricate the genius and revelation contained there. So I concluded that it must be true.
As a young man, a coworker told me of her belief in the Hindu gods. She said that millions of these gods line up behind you when you believe in them. I asked her what happens when you turn around suddenly. Do all these gods rotate really fast with you? All of Hinduism is nothing but petty irrelevance.
You mentioned the Buddhist religion. As an adult I read the fundamental claims asserted in Buddhist literature. I was appalled by Buddha's lack of inspiration. The highest goal of Buddhists absolutely terrifies me.
If you watch any world news related to Islam, you should be appalled by the darkness of those who follow Islam.

If one is going about this a priori with the only goal being to not be damned to hell at death, shouldn't one consider the possbility that God is evil and dark, according to modern standards of morality? I don't think this is being picky. We really have no idea what the truth is. Or if there is a God, we really have no idea what he wants. The truth may be obvious in your mind after reading the New Testament, but so it is also obvious to many Muslisms who read the Quran. It was also obvious to Andrea Yates that she should drown her children in order to spare them eternal damnation. We now claim that she was "mentally ill." The mind is a tricky thing Eugene. I've been just as religious as you in the past and found the existence of God to be self-evident. Things can change. |

I am at a point where I want to explore some of these issues again. It is for more than just my own benefit of course.
