What is the Dallas Independent School District Trying to Hide?
The following email exchange surprised me. Shouldn't directors of public schools disclose important statistical information upon request? What right do they have to withhold simple statistics about their teacher preparation programs? Why are they being so secretive?
I also wonder about the truthfulness of their first email response. I had asked my first question in the following email at the information fair on Wednesday and was told by a staff member that the number of applicants last year was about 400 and that they only selected 30.

Dear Lucio Pedraza,
Thank you for the opportunity to ask you questions by email.
Question 1: Last year, how many openings were there in DISD for secondary math teachers and how many applicants were there for DISD's alternative certification program for secondary math?
Question 2: Last year, how many persons were accepted for the secondary math "Academy" program and how many applicants were there for that?
Thanks again for your time in answering these questions.
Sincerely,
Eugene Shubert

Mr. Shubert
We had over 200 applicants for math and selected 40. Our records are merged so I don't know the specifics for the Academy.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Is there anyone you know that could give me a reasonable guess or approximate number in response to my second question?
