Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:1-7

Apostle Peter reminded those of pure minds that scoffers will come in the last days walking according to their own lusts and will mock, scorn and treat with derision those who believe and confess the Word of God in it’s entirety. They willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. They choose not to believe But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men and they will pay in the judgments of God that will come. Hell is no laughing matter as the Jesus told us about it:

"There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. "But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, "desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

"So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. "And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

"But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'

"Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'

"And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' " Luke 16:19-31

Hell is a place of torment and once you get there you don’t get out for eternity. And eternity is a long time! Hell is a place where the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone (Revelations 21:8). It doesn’t pay to be a scoffer for as wise King Solomon told us:

He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy. Proverbs 17:21

Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of fools. Proverbs 19:29

A proud and haughty man-"Scoffer" is his name; He acts with arrogant pride. Proverbs 21:24

Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise men turn away wrath. Proverbs 29:8

King Solomon also told us how to handle and deal with scoffers:

"He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. Proverbs 9:7

Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Proverbs 9:8

A wise son heeds his father's instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. Proverbs 13:1

A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it, But knowledge is easy to him who understands. Proverbs 14:6

A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, Nor will he go to the wise. Proverb 15:12

Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary; Rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge. Proverbs 19:25

When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. Proverbs 21:11

Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease. Proverbs 22:10
