I'm a former S.D.A., an idealistic atheist, & a hard-line anti-communist.
Here are a few facts that Christians & conservatives try to suppress:
#1. Despite the fact that Thomas Paine was the most irreligious of all of the American Founding Fathers, he was the one who was most opposed to slavery!!
#2. No religious leader has ever been as tolerant as Voltaire when he said the following: "I may disagree with you, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it".
#3. Right now, the country of North Korea is more afraid of the writings of idealistic skeptics like David Hume, Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Sigmund Freud, Ayn Rand, Sidney Hook, & Camille Paglia, than it is of Billy Graham & the Bible!! Billy Graham &/or his son have been to North Korea many times, & Billy Graham is the only foreigner to ever be allowed to speak on North Korean television!!
#4. In recent years, there's been controversy in the news media over the fact that some people, including some S.D.A.'s, have erected bill-boards which say that "The pope is the anti-Christ". The pope is not the "anti-Christ", but he is certainly a criminal!!

Incidentally, Sidney Hook, who was an atheist, a socialist, & pro-choice on sex & abortion, received the American Medal of Freedom Award from President Ronald Reagan for his work in anti-Communism.
I hope you don’t mind but I moved your post out of the Battle of Armageddon forum. That place is specifically devoted to complaints against the gospel.
I’m curious about your point #3. Why would an atheistic nation be fearful of idealistic atheists?
Posted: Sun Nov 17, 2002 11:29 am Post subject: Individual freedom & choice!!
Individual freedom & choice—human dignity—I can see how that would frighten any totalitarian regime. I even know of a few Christian churches that disapprove of those ideals [1][2]. Regarding your point #4, what criminal charges do you say apply to the pope?
Idealistic atheism and Spiritualism have atheism in common. I moved your thread here [to The Dragon, Beast and False Prophet Convention Center] because I think of this specific forum in terms of a general meaning I have of the dragon, beast and false prophet. If you have a friendly question about my sense of those terms, I’d be happy to explain them in the Midheaven/Revelation forum. If you have a complaint, I’d be happy to give you a friendly answer on the open complaint thread.

"Alan,
Idealistic atheism and Spiritualism have atheism in common."
=======================================
#1. Atheists don't believe in ANY supernatural power!!
#2. ALL Spiritualists believe in SOME kind of supernatural power!!
#3. Many Spiritualists believe in God & Satan!!

It all boils down to my general definition of the dragon, beast and false prophet. As far as forum administration is concerned, I’m guided by the following observations:
The spirit of the papacy is the spirit that wants to control. It doesn’t care what the truth is.
Quote:
The genius of the papacy is in approving the worship of the god or gods that had been worshipped before, and bringing that worship under its control and guidance.
In Revelation, Babylon is led by an alliance of three evil powers—The dragon, beast and false prophet (Rev 16:19 cf. 17:18). In Rev 16:13-14, John sees the spirit within each:
Quote:
And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.
The original, defining spirit of Satan (the dragon) is the spirit that seeks to throw off all restraint (Gen 3:1-5 cf. Isa 14:12-15). There are many in this world that preach that kind of spirit. I define it to be spiritualism. In seeming opposition to that, the false prophet, the antithesis of the Holy Spirit and the parody of conscience, seeks to compel and coerce (Rev 13:11-17). The antichrist power is that central uniting force that brings these two opposites together in a political union. For more on these concepts see links [3] and [4].

As an idealistic atheist, I'm opposed to all censorship, unless national
security is threatened, & I'm very sorry to hear that you've been banned
from some S.D.A. forums. However, there is at least 1 S.D.A. forum that
has public archives & NO censorship.
This forum is also public and without censorship but, as an idealistic forum administrator, I’m required to put low quality threads in the Bottomless Pit.

Powell Attacks Christian Right -- Oliver Burkeman in New York -- The Guardian
UK -- Friday, 15 November, 2002
Colin Powell, the US secretary of state, condemned America's Christian right yesterday for propagating hatred against Muslims, in what appeared to be a coordinated White House campaign to confront anti-Islamic rhetoric from a constituency that includes some of the Bush administration's staunchest supporters. Days after the televangelist Pat Robertson said on his Christian Broadcasting Network that "what the Muslims want to do to the Jews is worse" than the Holocaust, Mr Powell told a gathering in Washington: "This kind of hatred must be rejected." The escalation in anti-Muslim comments from conservative Christians includes a recent claim by Jerry Falwell, the country's leading rightwing Baptist, that the prophet Mohammed was "a terrorist". Veteran evangelist Jimmy Swaggart followed that this week by calling Mohammed a "sex deviant" and a pervert and demanding that Muslim students in the US be expelled. "We ought to tell every other Muslim living in this nation that if you say one word, you're gone," he said. As the likelihood grows of a war in Iraq there are strategic benefits for the White House in convincing Muslims that it would not be a war against their religion. The administration's increased willingness to confront the Christian right reflects the Republicans' sweeping victories in last week's mid-term elections, reducing Mr Bush's reliance on the extreme fringes of his supporter base.
