To All…Independent SDAs, dependent, suspendent, main stream, offshoots and fringe ministries alike, does these words below of William Miller apply to God’s professed people or what? It has my vote after witnessing all the confusion taught & believed by the main stream, fringe, independent, supendent & fringe groups concerning last day events.
“a stereotype representation of what the course makes them; if they [the graduates] raise a fellow man out of the mire, they never get him neared to heaven than the school where they were educated…They are content to share in the honor of repeating twaddle true or false, which passes for truth, in the school or sect which has made them what they are.” Miller, p. 16
I know that God could use this man because he was not trained at the schools of the world, but after reading his above words I just wonder if he was shown in vision the campuses of Andrews and Loma Linda.

Ezekiel 34 tells all about these distortions from school textbooks in "higher education". Let us look at few verses where God is talking to the shepherds in Israel [Adventism] not in gentile land of the Protestants, Jews & Catholics.

“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe [be] to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: [but] ye feed not the flock.
The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up [that which was] broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
And they were scattered, because [there is] no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.
My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek [after them].
Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD;
[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because [there was] no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;
Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD;
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. Ez.34:2-10

How easy it would be to say something after each verse in this entire chapter. But I will back away & let heave continue the talking to the hirling shepherds.

"And [as for] my flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, [even] I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle.
Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad;
Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle.
And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, [even] my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken [it].
And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make [them] afraid.
And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more.
Thus shall they know that I the LORD their God [am] with them, and [that] they, [even] the house of Israel, [are] my people, saith the Lord GOD.
And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, [are] men, [and] I [am] your God, saith the Lord GOD." Ezekiel 34

Having prepared myself to be in jail someday for the truths Heaven has allowed me to scatter, I have memorized hundreds of Gospel songs to sing while being deprived of the real bible, the KJV, my comfort. One such song keeps rinning in my ear as I see drowning people clinging & grasping at straw to stay afloat.

"Throw out the lifeline accross the dark wave, there is a brother someone should save. Somebodys brother oh who then will dare, to throw out the lifeline..."

The words you attribute to William Miller are not his. Please read carefully E. Sutherland's Studies in Christian Education, page 73:

THE CHARACTER capable of carrying the midnight cry had to be developed in the Christian manual training schools, or in the school of the common walks of life. The leader of this movement, William Miller, "the farmer prophet," like Christ and John the Baptist, was educated in the latter. His biographer, a man well qualified to judge the value of the popular educational system of the churches, writes, "What now, would have been the effect of what is called a regular course of education? Would it have perverted him, as it has thousands? Or would it have made him instrumental of greater good in the cause of God? Would it have performed its appropriate work, that of disciplining, enlarging, and furnishing the mind, leaving unimpaired by the process its natural energies, its sense of dependence and accountability as to God? Or would it have placed him in the crowded ranks of those who are content to share in the honor of repeating the twaddle, true or false, which passes for truth in the school or sect which has made them what they are? We think it would have been difficult to pervert him; but where so many who have been regarded as highly promising have been marred by the operation, he would have been in great danger. He might have become externally a better subject for the artist; but we doubt if he would have been a better subject to be used as an instrument of Providence. There are those who survive the regular course uninjured; there are those who are benefitted by it, so far as to be raised to a level with people of ordinary capacity, which they never could attain without special aid. And there is a third class, who are a stereotype representation of what the course makes them; if they raise a fellowman out of the mire, they never get him nearer to heaven than the school where they were educated. Whatever might have been the result of any established course of education in the case of William Miller, such a course was beyond his reach; he was deprived of the benefit, he has escaped the perversion." (Miller, pp. 15-16).

Please help me out here!!! If these are not W. Millers words that I posted and take your account that it was by the educator EA Southerlin, then why did Southerlin even bother to use quote marks and the page # where those words were found???
Yes I have read Southerlin's book that documents the results that heaven could not use anyone that received their education from the world [confeering of degrees] to give the Midnight cry in 1844. So again when the Loud Cry will be given in the near future, that class of people will again be passed over to someone not so self intoxicated with their "higher education".
Thanks for reminding people about this wonderful book that few people even know about in Adventism as their book case is all filled up with the Dobson & Vendon nonsence books.
