Most Christians have no difficulty understanding Paul's prohibition of sexual immorality, even if they have minor differences about what it includes. Obviously extreme crimes like rape, sodomy, beastiality are not in dispute.

And even if high-school kids experiment in kissing and petting, they know fundamentally that they are on a slippery slope that often ends in quick tragedy, such as teenage pregnancy or STDs.

After all, Paul said "avoid sexual immorality" FOUR TIMES! And it is a familiar theme in books and at the pulpit.

Now imagine Paul goes to Africa with a translator, to preach. Speaking to a crowd of tens of thousands, he preaches his gospel and converting great numbers. In his morning address Paul covers church organization, personal conduct, various doctrines, and naturally, warns the Africans with:

"Avoid Sexual Immorality!" four times, in the course of the sermon.

His translator faithfully renders his message into Zulu, Swahili, and dozens of other languages for the crowds.

In the afternoon, Paul dwells upon the topic of drugs and drinking, of drunkeness and sobriety. In this long speech, Paul seems extra concerned, repeating himself over THIRTY TIMES:

"Be Sober! Avoid Drunkeness!", yes: thirty times Paul gives a command.

This time however, the original translator has been waylaid and replaced by an evil criminal. This new translator pauses each time Paul says "Be Sober!" and instead says "Drink Moderately!" in each instance. He in fact owns a brewery and a chain of beer stores, and is a member of a motorcycle gang that uses alcohol to drug underage girls and make porn videos.

And that is precisely how modern Protestants translate Paul today.
