Confused Don’t know if this is where I can get some HELP...I serve on a church board that of late is changing. Have been on boards in other states and haven’t come across some of the things that happen at ours. The newest item of interest is one that has some folks UPSET. Where can I find information regarding the organization of Board Meetings; such as who can attend the meetings besides those who are elected by offices they serve in. In question is an individual that the head elder is close to who is attending, takes notes and speaks out but doesn’t vote. The individual is from another SDA church in town. Our pastor sees no problem...said all meetings are open. He has been here just a few months and the head elder is the one who has run things for nearly a year. Anyway this individual also attends the relocation (building) meetings and takes notes etc. I have been of the opinion that this is not the norm. Any help????

sasps,

I looked, but couldn’t find anything in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Manual for or against the practice of a church board meeting secretly. Perhaps a brief citation of Biblical principles would suffice.

A board that insists on secrecy is suggesting two evils:

  1. They have something to hide.
  2. There are two classes of SDA Christians.
Ellen White wrote:

The truth is, SDA Christians should “abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:22. KJV.

“All ye are brethren.” Matthew 23:8. KJV.

sasps,

I’m delighted to see that you were so ashamed of your question that you deleted it. I of course have a record of all forum transactions. I edited my reply accordingly.

Please be advised that it’s universally considered a discourtesy on forums everywhere to delete a message after someone takes the time to post a thoughtful response!
