Pastor David Kang
#1. "Light for Life Ministry was founded 17 years ago by Pastor David Kang, an ordained Seventh-day Adventist minister. Pastor Kang was born and raised as an Adventist in Korea. He earned a theology degree at the Korean Adventist College and came to the United States in 1975 to continue his studies at the Adventist Seminary at Andrews University. He had served as a pastor for 15 years in the denomination until 1989 and is currently working as a television evangelist. He was strongly impressed with the calling to start a ministry for the Asian people, to preach the Three Angels’ Messages in these last days."

#2. Among other things at the following URL, Pastor David Kang tells how the Chinese Jesuits have printed counterfeit copies of Ellen G. White's books in China with illegal changes. Adventists couldn't get the legal ISBN number to publish the books of Ellen G. White in China -- but it seems that they got it in Hong Kong, and published The Great Controversy Series over there. In China, the Jesuits got the legal ISBN number, and published Ellen G. White's books, and distributed them!!!! Sounds good???? Think again!!!! The books looked exactly like the ones that the Adventists had published in Hong Kong, with the same covers, & with Ellen G. White's name, but there were changes inside!!!! Sunday is called God's Sabbath, but the most startling changes were in the accounts on the Reformation. Martin Luther apparently fell in love, and since the priests couldn't marry, he revolted against the church, and started the reformation!!!! And instead of calling the Jesuits "the most cruel, unscrupulous, and powerful of all the champions of popery", [The Great Controversy, p. 2343], the "revised" book portrays them as wonderful evangelists that were far more effective than the reformers!!!!

Hi All,
Kevin is 100% correct. In 2003-2005, David Kang and his people contacted me to help guide converts in the NY metropolitan area by organizing his ministry branch in NY. I told him at the time that I can do this on one condition, which is to lead these people to the church by eventually organizing them as a company. I even told him that I can arrange the help from the Greater NY Conference leaders to do this for him. He said yes to this offer. I immediately arranged a meeting with the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Conference and they help me to set up a place to worship in the Queens Chinese Church. The local Chinese Church leaders (pastors and elders) were also very helpful and protective of these new converts. The Conference leaders and Chinese Church elders knew about the bad relationship between David Kang's ministry and Korean pastors (it's a long story), so they wanted to protect these new converts from any possible discouragement stemming from this bad relationship. It was not an easy situation for me to do this at the time and I have suffered much from other Korean pastors and laypeople. However, I felt compelled to help these 25-30 folks coming from the non-SDA Protestant background to settle well in the church without getting influenced by the new-theology types. Everything was going well and eventually the time came to really start organizing these people as a company, and there was even a meeting at the Conference office between David Kang and Conference President to discuss this. However, at this point, a very rich person has joined this group of believers and David Kang did not, in his mind, want to lose the control of this group to Conference. So he influenced a few people including the rich person from the behind the scene to obstruct this process. He instigated these folks to move out of the Chinese Church where they have been worshiping close to 2 years. During the final meeting where I was present, to persuade these people not to join the church, David Kang flatly stated to these believers: "There are 3 organizations in the world very similar -- Communism, Papacy and the Seventh-day Adventist denomination. They are all kingly powers." I was so indignant that he said this. The Chinese Church pastor and elders, when they were informed of this move by David Kang from me. They earnestly requested to meet with David Kang. At the meeting, David Kang so arrogantly rejected these local church leaders' entreaty not to have these people leave the church. They even told him that these folks don't have to join the church officially and even so they would treat them as if they are brothers and sisters. Afterward, David Kang said, at my presence, that these local church leaders are like those of the Jewish church leaders and they do not know the freedom of conscience that he enjoys. Even after doing this, he asked me to continue to help him with these people. I said no and left. About 6 months after this, there was some dispute among these folks and David Kang favored only the rich person. Consequently most of the people in this group left in disgust. They not only rejected David Kang's message, but also rejected the Adventist Message and Ellen White's writings. They turned a most bitter enemy of Adventism as a result. When I found out about this, I tried to help these folks to come back to the church, but I was not much successful. Only one person I know is in the church but she is not in the camp of the new theology group, and another one is still out but she told me that she knows the Sabbath is the real day of rest and eventually she will keep the Sabbath. I was the only person to come to aid when she was sick and need material help. No one from David Kang's group even bothered to show any caring to this person when she was really sick. Do not trust this person. He talks and act like he is doing God's work, but a lot of what drives him is a very ugly self-interest and unholy ambition. He hides his true intention and color even to his own ministry staffs (some of them only recently discovered that David Kang has been harboring a separation agenda because they did not know what he actually doing in the field). To Adventists, he says he is still a faithful Adventist pastor, but if you know Korean you can read one of the pages (for other Christians) says that he is an orthodox Christian in the wilderness that does not belong to any denomination. Now he actually come out of the closet (so to speak) and said flatly that he has not sent the converts to the Adventist Church for some time. I will post some of his recent letters to his staff (translated into English). This has caused a severe problem among his ministry staffs and several already left. If you know anyone invites him, please warn them. You can even give my reference. This person is a very dangerous wolf in the shepherd clothing.

Happy Sabbath all.
I remember reading that in some communist countries the leadership of the church would be taken over by government placed operatives. Covertly or not. These would then run the church according to governmental rules, and individuals not willing to put the law of the land above the law of God would face incarceration etc. When the leaders of the church report "dissidents" to the government and at the same time are lauded by western SDA leaders, how do we judge? We should not wonder then that someone with that background would indeed preach separation from the SDA "church" as he would see the church as an extended arm of the government. Cell groups that many churches so love is a product from communism and was set up to control and report on individuals. Martin Luther, maybe one of the biggest separatists of his time, did not start preaching separation. He desired that his beloved church turn from his ways and align with Gods truth. The church (RCC) responded by ousting him, resulting in him separating from them and igniting the reformation. I have a friend who was a pastor and at some time pointed out to the leaders of the church and union some errors they had. I read his letters to them and I had to agree with him in his evaluation. He documented it with the Bible and Ellen White, pleading that they return to the truth. Eventually he was banned from preaching in a SDA church. Ever. He never left the church and does not preach that we should separate, but he teaches that truth is truth. He then started an independent operation on evangelism and reached and reaches many individuals with the gospel of Christ and the Advent message. We preach context context context when studying the Bible, maybe we should also preach this when it comes to evaluating stuff that happens in other countries as well? I do not know more about Mr. Kang than the video, and as far as I can judge I would not put it past the Jesuits to do such a thing. In the end all he asks for is that one prays for China and the church there.

Dear Heiki:
Justin Kim can confirm this, but to my knowledge, David Kang has never lived and worked in a Communist country. He is a native of South Korea, and has therefore never (at least to my knowledge) lived or worked under the circumstances you describe. From what I read in the Spirit of Prophecy writings, it is quite illegitimate to compare Martin Luther's circumstances with those of reform-minded Adventists today. Luther was confronting the Antichrist system; we are confronting God's true church struggling with apostasy. There was no hope for the medieval papacy to ever reform. By contrast, we have the inspired promise that the organized Seventh-day Adventist Church will be purified of its apostate majority, in such statements as the following:
"The shaking of God blows away multitudes like dry leaves. Prosperity multiplies a mass of professors. Adversity purges them out of the church. As a class their spirits are not steadfast with God. They go out from us because they are not of us" (4T 89). Quite obviously, "the church" as described in this statement does not refer to the true and faithful only, as certain ones mistakenly believe, for if that were true, there would be no false believers needing to be sifted out of it. This false understanding of certain ones regarding who and what is the church (e.g. John Grosboll) has wreaked more havoc among the faithful than perhaps any other fanaticism with which we have had to contend. It has drained godly believers from otherwise salvageable congregations, who are led to assume that eventually they're going to get kicked out of the church anyway, so why not get out while they're ahead, start a home church, etc? David Kang is problematic for a variety of reasons, but his negative view of the organized church is a major theological reason for not endorsing his ministry.
God bless! Kevin

I apologize for not being clear on my previous post. It had nothing to do with David Kang, or Martin Luther as such, nor even the RCC or SDA church. I used them as examples for the word "separatist" as the understanding being pervaded was that separatist have no legitimacy. In some countries separation from the church may well be a legitimate action as the SDA church is par se not a SDA church as we would define it.

I made an inquiry to Elder Fagal at the EGW Estate. Here is his response:
Dear Sister,
Good to hear from you again! We have made inquiry about this with the Adventist leadership that deals with China, and they do not have an ongoing concern. There were some books that were modified and published, but according to sources in China, the perpetrators have been caught and the church members there have been informed of the problem, so they know about the tainted books. We have no information here that Jesuits were involved in the counterfeiting, as reports had claimed.
I hope this may help. Thank you for writing, and God bless!
